Aerospace Door Edge Member
An increasing number of identical parts per aircraft is pushing large-scale production processes such as High-Pressure Resin Transfer Molding (HP-RTM) in the aerospace industry. Challenges, potentials and future directions of this development are demonstrated in this R&D project at the example of a structural aircraft door edge member. The manufacturing method is based on HP-RTM process chain as a well-known process for serial production in automotive industry on the one hand and suitable for achieving high quality standards for aerospace industry on the other. The part complexity is feasible for highly automated processes, especially preforming, RTM and ultrasonic trimming. Milling of the part as the final process step is combined with an integrated and innovative online quality control system.
